Well, January was a very good month for me. A big goal of mine for this year was to get myself more disciplined. I started off well with a lot of reading, consistent quiet time with God, full practice sessions, etc., but I'm afraid I let my guard down. February was a very inconsistent month, and March hasn't started so well.
Last night at my church, Olive Baptist, a man named Scott Bullman shared his weight loss story (well over 200lbs in 2 years!!!). He explained how this was not entirely a health issue for him, but rather a issue of stewardship and discipline, bringing his body under subjection. God really used his talk to speak to me. I have too many areas of my life that lack discipline, and with God's help, I am going to start changing that.
1. I'm going to start waking up at 6:00 am. This almost feels impossible to me, but I know it will be good for me, and I'll get more things done with another hour or two in my day.
2. I'm going to limit my eating to my main meals with no snacking except for fruits and vegetables.
3. I'm going to blog here more. I often don't blog because I feel that I don't have anything life changing to offer. But I started this blog to give a glimpse into the life of a full-time musician, not offer amazing advice everyday.
4. I'm going to limit my social media usage to one time per day. This is going to be very difficult as well. Opening my phone and checking all my social media has become a habit that happens whenever my hands have nothing else to do. I'm still not sure how I'm going to enforce this on myself, but I will make it happen.
5. I'm going to find or develop a short, attainable workout routine that I can do at home to get more active. Finding time to get to a gym is near impossible, but if I can get something done in about 20 minutes at home, I think I'll have a stronger chance at doing it.
6. I'm going to practice more. A lot more. I have a lot of potential auditioning and performing coming up, and it is really quite arrogant of me to think that I can get it done without putting a lot of work into it. I am also going to try to be better about planning out my practice times with specific goals.
These are just a few of the things that popped into my head as I think about areas in my life that could use more discipline. I picked a fine time to start with big student competitions the next two weekends and a baby coming very soon, but there is so such time as the present. If you know me and see me around, check up on me. Ask me how I'm doing with these areas. I could the accountability.
Until next time!
