This week has been another crazy one. Balancing school, teaching, and performing has already proved challenging. But when a concert is as spectacular as this one, then all the craziness is worth it.
This weekend the PSO is hosting violinist, Glenn Dicterow. Mr. Dicterow was recently joined the faculty at the University of South Carolina's Thornton School of Music after an unprecedented 33 years of serving as concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. He is truly a legend among violinists, and he will be performing the incredible Beethoven Violin Concerto with us tomorrow evening. We rehearse with him for the first time tonight, and I simply cannot wait to have even a small part in a performance with him. Here is a video of him performing Franz Waxman's Carmen Fantasy with the NY Phil back in 1990.

Also on the program are Mozart's Overture to the Marriage of Figaro, Ravel's beautiful Daphnis et Chloe Suite No.2, and Barber's Medea's Meditation and Dance of Vengeance. I have particularly enjoyed the Barber. I was not familiar with this piece until this concert, but it is truly a magnificent piece of composition. While it is beautiful, it is devilishly difficult. I'm very glad that I am not on the piano for this piece. It has all the rhythmic difficulty you'd expect of a 20th century American composer. I'm looking forward to seeing how the audience receives this piece. In the spirit of the night, here is a New York Phil performance of Barber's Medea's Meditation and Dance of Vengeance.
Well! I'm off to teach, then a double rehearsal tonight! Have a great weekend everyone!
